Mr Tony Corner

Profile

Mr Tony Corner is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon whose clinical practice is dedicated to treating patients with problems of the shoulder, elbow and upper limb including rotator cuff tears, dislocations, frozen shoulder, arthritis, fractures, tendon and sports related injuries.  He uses the latest techniques to treat these conditions and works closely with the patient’s therapist to ensure optimum recovery.

He qualified from St. Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College London and later underwent specialist Orthopaedic training in London (North West Thames Rotation). He subsequently underwent a one year UK advanced training fellowship in complex upper limb reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist with Mr Steve Drew at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. In 2009 he was awarded the prestigious British Orthopaedic Association European Travelling Fellowship whereby he gained invaluable experience and training from 4 of the world’s leading shoulder surgeons in France (Giles Walch, Pascal Boileau), Italy (Alesssandro Castagna) and Switzerland (Ralph Hertel). Following advanced fellowship training in the UK  Mr Corner was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust (Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals)in 2010.  

He has published numerous research papers in orthopaedic surgery and this work has been presented at national and international meetings.

Mr Tony Corner is a faculty member for courses held nationally to teach techniques of arthroscopic shoulder reconstructive surgery to other orthopaedic consultants and higher trainees. He has also been an invited lecturer on the Mastership course in Orthopaedics held at the University of Warwick Medical School and has been an invited speaker to the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. He was the chairman and convenor for the inaugural Hertfordshire Orthopaedic Sports Conference. He is an editorial reviewer for the 'Shoulder & Elbow' scientific journal. He is currently the Orthopaedic Representative for the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Harpenden Hospital. 

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS).  

Mr Tony Corner’s main surgical interest is in arthroscopic (keyhole) reconstructive shoulder surgery for the treatment of impingement, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability (dislocations), frozen shoulder and sports related injuries. He also offers a full range of surgery for shoulder and elbow arthritis including joint resurfacing and total joint replacements including both standard and reverse polarity arthroplasties. Following advanced fellowship training Mr Corner has developed expertise in upper limb trauma for all fractures, dislocations and tendon injuries in the upper limb including sports related injuries.  

Now his rugby playing days are over he enjoys his spare time relaxing with his family and encouraging the sporting activities of his children. However, he remains an avid rugby and football supporter and when time allows he enjoys a round of golf.
